The All Progressives Congress (APC) has initiated the development of a handbook for its proposed Progressive Institute, a significant endeavor aimed at establishing a think tank and intellectual resource center for the party. The event, held in collaboration with the Institute for Governance and Leadership Studies in Africa, marked a pivotal moment for the ruling party.

During the gathering in Abuja, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the APC National Chairman, underscored the party’s commitment to elevating the standard of political discourse and ideology, with a view to fostering good governance in Nigeria. Emphasizing the role of the institute as a think tank and intellectual resource center, Dr. Ganduje articulated the party’s aspirations for cultivating a world-class intellectual resource facility.

A core aspect of this initiative, as highlighted by Dr. Ganduje, is the integration of science and technology to deepen internal democracy and advance principles of good governance, inclusivity, and equity within the country. The party, cognizant of its duty to promote ideals, envisages the proposed institute serving a dual role as a think tank and intellectual resource center.

The Progressive Institute is set to provide a platform for in-depth research on governmental policies and programs under the APC’s auspices. Furthermore, it aims to enhance the capacity of party members to effectively deliver good governance to Nigerians. Dr. Ganduje revealed plans for the development of a curriculum for ideological training, tailored for both party members and government officials, underscoring the pivotal role of the institute in shaping the party’s future trajectory.

The development of the handbook stands as a foundational step in ensuring a seamless launch of the institute. Dr. Ganduje urged active engagement from participants, affirming the party’s commitment to realizing substantial outcomes from the conference. The event was chaired by Prof. Nuhu Yaqub, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, and drew the participation of the National Working Committee and other stakeholders.

The APC’s initiative to establish the Progressive Institute through the formulation of a comprehensive handbook underscores its strategic move to bolster the intellectual underpinnings of the party and fortify its decision-making processes. This forward-looking approach reinforces the party’s vision of advancing governance through a robust intellectual framework, setting the stage for a potential transformation in political discourse and governance in Nigeria.
