Lack of Credibility: Labour Party Urges Enugu Rerun-Election Cancellation

The Labour Party has denounced the House of Representatives rerun election in Enugu State, calling for its outright cancellation. Umar Farouk, the party’s national secretary, led a monitoring team to assess the by-election and highlighted significant procedural irregularities.

Farouk expressed concern over compromised accreditation, hijacked result sheets, and disregarded BVAS machines, undermining the voting process. He emphasized that voters were deprived of their fundamental right to cast their ballots. The Labour Party, accompanied by their House of Representatives candidate, Dennis Agbo, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the elections in areas where such illegalities were reported.

Agbo also demanded the immediate and complete annulment of the supplementary election. He accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of leveraging local government vigilantes to intimidate Labour Party supporters. Agbo further alleged that INEC officials colluded with PDP members, allowing voting to occur in private residences, compromising the fairness and transparency of the electoral process.
