Zamfara State Governor Distributes Agricultural Inputs to 2,000 Farmers in COVID-19 Recovery Program

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has launched a program to distribute agricultural inputs and assets to 2,000 farmers in Bungudu and Maru local government areas. This initiative is part of the COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Distribution Programme sponsored by FADAMA III.

The distribution, which began on January 3 in Gusau, is aimed at boosting farmers’ productivity and alleviating rural poverty. Governor Lawal has also conducted similar exercises in other local government areas and plans to introduce an integrated entrepreneurship program that includes various agro-allied projects and provides training and starter packs to small-scale businesses.

In Bungudu, the governor highlighted the opportunities this program brings to the farming communities, expressing confidence that it will contribute to economic diversification efforts. Meanwhile, in Maru, the governor emphasized the initiative’s focus on combating malaria and increasing income for beneficiaries through interventions such as tilapia fish rearing.

Furthermore, Governor Lawal announced plans to rehabilitate earth dams in Maru in 2024, creating employment opportunities for over 40,000 farmers and significantly impacting food security for a large population.

This distribution program signifies the state government’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity and improving the quality of livelihood for its people.
