The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Ifeoluwa Ehindero of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the victor of the Akoko North-East and Akoko North-West Federal constituency by-election in Ondo State.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Johnson Fasinmirin, from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), declared Ehindero the winner after votes were tallied at the collation center at Victory College, Ikare-Akoko on Saturday.
Ehindero secured 35,504 votes, surpassing his closest rival Olalekan Bada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 15,328 votes.

According to Fasinmirin, the total votes cast were 51,896, with 51,341 being valid and 555 votes rejected.
The returning officer stated, “I, Fasinmirin Johnson, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the 2024 Akoko North-East and Akoko North-West Federal Constituency By-election held on February 3. The election was contested and Ehindero Ifeoluwa Babajide of APC polled 35,504 while Bada Olalekan Oladapo scored 15,328. That Ehindero Ifeoluwa Babajide of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
Ehindero triumphed over Bada by 20,176 votes, with Ishmail Adeshina of the African Democratic Congress securing 213 votes and coming in third.

The Akoko North-East and Akoko North-West Federal constituency seat became vacant following the resignation of Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who was appointed Minister of Interior by President Bola Tinubu.
Eight political parties fielded candidates for the vacant seat in the House of Representatives, including ADC, APC, APGA, PDP, NNPP, APP, SDP, and LP.
