The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has urged the federal public service to disburse their N25,000 quarterly accoutrement allowance for medical and dental doctors promptly.
The demand was formalized in the communique released at the conclusion of NARD’s January National Executive Council meeting and health summit held in Abuja from January 30 to February 3, 2024.
In 2023, the Federal Government authorized the payment of a N25,000 quarterly accoutrement allowance for medical and dental doctors serving in federal hospitals, medical centers, and clinics. However, NARD has expressed discontentment with the delayed implementation of this approval by certain health institutions and the non-compliance with the upward review of CONMESS and other allowances by the Federal Government and Ministry of Finance.
The communique signed by NARD’s President, Dr. Dele Abdullahi, and other executive members highlighted concerns about salary arrears, assault on medical practitioners, and the chronic shortage of medical personnel. They called for urgent measures to address these issues.
Furthermore, NARD demanded that state governors adopt the revised CONMESS and initiate its implementation, urged the Federal Government to accelerate the payment of all outstanding salary and promotion arrears, and emphasized the need for enhanced security within hospital vicinities.
It is imperative for the government to prioritize the welfare and security of healthcare workers, as their dedication and well-being are pivotal to the country’s healthcare system.
