Alhaji Jibrin Ndagi-Baba, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), has emerged as the winner in the recent rerun election for the Lavun Constituency in Niger State’s House of Assembly.
Ndagi-Baba secured 21,393 votes, defeating his closest contender, Baba Yusuf Dabban of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 20,802 votes.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the state governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, hailed the victory as a restoration of mandate. Governor Bago emphasized that the electorate in Lavun had unequivocally aligned with the ruling party, signaling an endorsement of its policies for enhanced benefits.
Expressing confidence in the lawmaker’s ability, Governor Bago called for the utilization of Ndagi-Baba’s legislative acumen in the 10th State Assembly to enact effective laws. He urged the victorious candidate to display magnanimity by extending an olive branch to his fellow contestants and collaborating with those genuinely devoted to the constituency’s welfare, aiming to elevate service delivery to the people.
Furthermore, the governor encouraged Ndagi-Baba to embrace the “New Niger” agenda, focusing on the comprehensive growth and development of the state, promising unwavering support for his endeavors. He emphasized that the APC remains a potent force dedicated to dispensing democratic dividends to all citizens.
Ndagi-Baba had previously served as the Deputy Speaker in the 9th State Assembly but lost his re-election bid in the 2023 general election to his PDP opponent, Baba Yusuf Dabban. Following a legal challenge, the tribunal ordered a rerun, and the Court of Appeal upheld the tribunal’s decision on November 24, 2023.
