Jay-Z Denounces Grammy’s Album of the Year Decisions, Beyoncé’s Ongoing Snub

Renowned American rapper, Jay-Z, used his acceptance speech for the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at the 2024 Grammys to criticize the Grammy organizers for consistently overlooking his wife, Beyoncé, in the ‘Album of the Year’ category. Despite Beyoncé’s historic 32 Grammy wins, she has never clinched the Album of the Year accolade, prompting Jay-Z to question the Recording Academy’s judgment. He highlighted the anomaly, stating, “I don’t wanna embarrass this young lady [Beyoncé] but she has more Grammys than anyone and never won Album of the Year. So, even by your own [Grammy organisers] metrics that doesn’t work. Think about that: the most Grammys never won Album of the Year, that doesn’t work.”

The 2024 Grammys, held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, saw Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights’ triumph in the Album of the Year category. Additionally, Victoria Monét was honored as the Best New Artist of the Year, while Billie Eilish’s ‘What Was I Made For?’ secured the Song of the Year award, and Miley Cyrus’s ‘Flowers’ clinched Record of the Year. Jay-Z’s passionate critique and Beyoncé’s ongoing snub in the Album of the Year category have sparked renewed discussions on the Grammy’s decision-making process and its impact on artists.
