Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed confidence that the challenging times faced by Nigerians will soon be overcome through effective government policies.

Speaking at a meeting with the Governors’ Wives for her initiative, Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), held at the State House, the First Lady assured that the year 2024 holds great promise for peace, progress, prosperity, and notable achievements for all Nigerians.

Mrs. Tinubu commended the efforts and support of the governors’ wives in the year 2023 and encouraged them to continue addressing the needs of the vulnerable in their respective states.

She emphasized that the current hardships are temporary and will soon diminish. The RHI, driven by her office, aims to complement President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Under the RHI’s Women Agricultural Support Programme (WASP), 20 farmers from each of the five states in the South East Zone will be empowered with N500,000 each. Additionally, a total of N10 million will be provided to the coordinators of the RHI states. The National Agricultural Land Development Authority, in collaboration with RHI, will support an additional 80 female farmers from each state by offering training, capacity building, agricultural inputs, and purchasing their produce after harvest.

The First Lady also announced her plan to launch the “Young Farmers Club” in public schools nationwide to encourage farming among the younger population. Schools with the best farms will be identified, and prizes such as school renovations, equipping science laboratories, providing ICT equipment, and upgrading school libraries will be awarded to the winners.

She further mentioned the “Every Home a Garden” competition, stating that the owner of the overall best garden will receive a cash prize of N20 million by December. The First Lady urged the governors’ wives to keep her updated on the progress of the programme.

Apart from agriculture, the RHI also focuses on economic empowerment, health, and social investment, according to the First Lady.
