Nigeria’s talented defender, Semi Ajayi, has highlighted the remarkable diversity within the Super Eagles team, under the leadership of head coach Jose Peseiro, during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
The West Brom star expressed that the Super Eagles possess a multitude of strengths, emphasizing that the team is not reliant on a single player for goal-scoring or creating scoring opportunities. Ajayi pointed out the multifaceted nature of the team, noting that various players have contributed to Nigeria’s success in the tournament.
Notable performances have come from Victor Osimhen, William Troost-Ekong, and Ademola Lookman, while Calvin Bassey and Moses Simon have each provided assists. Ajayi emphasized the team’s overall capability and highlighted their focus on winning, underscoring their readiness for the upcoming semi-final clash against South Africa.
“I think the beauty of this team is that we’ve got so many weapons,” Ajayi stated. “You can’t put all your attention on one person because we have so many people who are capable of creating and scoring.”
With an eye on the semi-final showdown against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, Ajayi declared, “We are not done yet. We’ve still got another game on Wednesday [against South Africa] and hopefully another game on Sunday. We came here to win, so full focus goes towards Wednesday now.”
