Cameroon’s Football Federation Rejects Eto’o’s Resignation

The Cameroon Football Federation has declined the resignation of its president, Samuel Eto’o, following the national team’s disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Eto’o faced allegations of misconduct, match-fixing, and corruption, prompting his offer to step down.

During a meeting to assess the Indomitable Lions’ campaign, Eto’o proposed his resignation and urged other committee members to follow suit. However, the executive committee unanimously rejected his resignation, expressing renewed confidence in his leadership to advance the reconstruction and development of Cameroonian football, as outlined in his strategic plan adopted in December 2021.

The statement released by the federation did not address the future of head coach Rigobert Song. Cameroon’s hopes of advancing in the tournament were dashed after a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria in the round of 16, marking the end of their AFCON 2023 journey.
