Foreign Affairs Minister-designate Sara Beysolow Nyanti has assured to overhaul Liberia’s foreign relations to bring in economic, social, and political benefits for the nation and its people. At her confirmation hearing, Nyanti expressed her determination to strengthen ties with traditional allies and international bodies while fostering new relationships to advance the country.
Nyanti, drawing from her experience at the United Nations, emphasized the need for strategic foreign service, rebranding Liberia, and creating a conducive environment for investment and capacity building. She highlighted her intention to prioritize the welfare of Liberians and safeguard the nation’s identity in all diplomatic negotiations.
Additionally, Nyanti underscored the importance of reforming the Foreign Service, committing to address the challenges faced by the Foreign Ministry. She asserted her goal of working collaboratively with ambassadors at home and abroad to revamp Liberia’s foreign relations and transform the Ministry into a more effective entity.
Furthermore, Nyanti emphasized the need for resource mobilization, criticizing corruption and the heavy reliance on international partners to fund Liberia’s national budget. She stressed the Ministry’s role in promoting accountability, transparency, and building resilient systems to demonstrate the country’s capability to manage its affairs.
Besides, Nyanti highlighted the significance of regional integration, particularly within the Mano River Union (MRU) and the broader African Union (AU). She expressed her commitment to promoting economic viability and strengthening diplomatic ties within these regional blocs for the benefit of Liberia. Nyanti wrapped up her hearing by reiterating her preparedness to make a substantial difference for Liberia, premising her readiness on her extensive global experience.
