Rivers women protest

There was a mild drama in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Tuesday, as some women marched to the office of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) over what they described as their inability to have conjugal relationship with their husbands due to heat and lack of power to operate any cooling devices.

The women, in the Mile 2 and Mile 3 areas of Port Harcourt, voiced their anger over the lack of power supply, which has affected not only their daily lives but also their intimate relationships.

They expressed their distress, stating that their husbands have become reluctant to engage in physical intimacy due to the oppressive heat caused by the prolonged power outages.

In light of this, the aggrieved women took to the streets and marched to the office of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) to air their grievances.

Mrs. Charity, one of the protesters, spoke out, saying, “We are here to inform PHEDC about the absence of electricity in the mile 3 area, specifically Ojuoto, Dim and Wokoma streets. We consistently pay our bills, but we receive no electricity in return. As a result, we demand that our voices are heard, and we refuse to pay this month’s bills due to the ongoing power outage.”

These women carried placards as they marched along the streets of Dim, Wokoma, Wokoma lane, Obaziolu, Dim lane, Egbuagu, Azikiwe, and Ojoto, chanting songs of solidarity to draw attention to their plight.
