NAFDAC: Half of Nigeria’s Imported Pharmaceuticals Fake, Says Director General

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has revealed a startling statistic – 50% of pharmaceutical products imported into Nigeria are fake. This alarming disclosure came from NAFDAC’s Director General, Mojisola Adeyeye, at a recent gathering of stakeholders in Abuja.

Adeyeye emphasized that the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (CPP) must adhere to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) standards to ensure the quality of pharmaceutical goods and the credibility of the exporting nation. However, she expressed deep concern that a large number of CPPs entering Nigeria are counterfeit.

She underscored NAFDAC’s unwavering commitment to rigorous regulatory measures, including the blacklisting of non-compliant companies and taking decisive action against those compromising product quality. Adeyeye affirmed NAFDAC’s active engagement in combating substandard and falsified medicines through comprehensive prevention, detection, and response strategies.
