Ahead of the crucial Super Eagles African Cup of Nations semi-final clash with South Africa on Wednesday, the Lagos State Government has established a massive viewing center at Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan. This initiative is part of a network of 25 centers strategically positioned across the state to encourage residents to revel in the best of African football. The tournament commenced on January 13th in Cote d’Ivoire.
This encounter with the Bafana Bafana at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake marks the fourth meeting between the two teams, with the Eagles emerging victorious in the three previous encounters. The kick-off time is scheduled for 6 pm.
Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, emphasized the importance of providing fans with the opportunity to watch the match due to Lagos’s status as the sports capital and home to the largest base of Super Eagles’ supporters. He stated, “Lagos, being the sports capital and the base of the largest supporters of the Super Eagles, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, deemed it fit to provide an opportunity for all fans to watch the match.”
Omotoso expressed Governor Sanwo-Olu’s hope for a triumph in the match, citing the team’s demonstrated capacity and technical prowess. “Mr. Governor expressed the hope that the national team will triumph in the match because the team has so far shown capacity and technical know-how to win,” he said.
