The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has decided to suspend its intended strike in Akwa Ibom State. This development came after Governor Umo Eno’s intervention to tackle the union’s concerns.
In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Umo Eno, Mr. Ekerete Udoh, it was revealed that following discussions with a diverse group of labor leaders from Akwa Ibom State University at Government House, Uyo, the governor pledged to address several issues. These include offsetting the 13th-month salary bonus, providing a three-month palliative, and commencing the construction of key roads within the main campus at Ikot Akpaden.
Emphasizing the significance of the University to the state, the Governor urged the University’s management to utilize internally generated revenue to execute essential tasks, assuring regular disbursement of monthly subventions.
Commending the Governor’s pro-labor stance, ASUU leaders, including Comrade (Elder) Sunny James and Dr. Inyang Udosen, expressed gratitude for the commitment to resolve the contentious issues. They affirmed the decision to halt the planned strike, citing the Governor’s willingness to address their concerns.
