Segun Adewale, the former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has revealed that the constant defeats of the party in the state are due to internal disunity and mishandling of election funds.
During a press briefing in Lagos, Adewale, also known as Aeroland, highlighted the lack of cohesion within the party as a significant factor contributing to its recurrent electoral setbacks. Additionally, he attributed the party’s misfortunes to the embezzlement of election funds by its leaders and their involvement in activities detrimental to the party’s interests.
Adewale, who contested as the Lagos West Senatorial District PDP Candidate in the 2023 elections, emphasized the urgent need for a change in the behavior and practices of these leaders to stand a chance against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
He brought to light the misappropriation of election funds, stating that a substantial portion of the funds intended for the 2023 elections did not reach the party or the grassroots operatives. He accused certain leaders of siphoning the funds while depriving party foot soldiers of their rightful share.
Moreover, Adewale alleged that several senior party members were involved in anti-party activities, implicating some members of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council in compromising the integrity of the 2023 general elections.
Providing evidence, he claimed to possess video proof of PDP leaders, including members of the Alhaji Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Council, colluding with the ruling APC during the last election.
Additionally, Adewale shed light on the mismanagement of election mobilization funds, citing his first-hand experience with the diversion of funds by certain leaders, compromising the electoral process.
In his call for accountability, he underscored the necessity for a robust mechanism to ensure financial transparency and responsible stewardship of election funds. He lamented the absence of accountability for election funds since 1999, advocating for stringent measures to prevent the mismanagement of funds in future elections, including the 2027 polls and beyond.
