PDP Urges NASS to Investigate Alleged Financial Impropriety in Tinubu Presidency

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a strong stance, calling for a thorough investigation into the leaked memo revealing the approval of a substantial amount for the inauguration of a committee on the new national minimum wage during Bola Tinubu’s presidency.

A leaked memo attributed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, suggested that President Tinubu authorized the disbursement of N500 million as the first installment of a N1 billion fund for the committee’s inauguration.

In response, the PDP vehemently criticized the alleged allocation, denouncing it as a “height of profligacy, imprudence, and financial recklessness.” The party expressed dismay at the perceived extravagance, particularly amidst widespread economic challenges and food shortages affecting millions of Nigerians, with arrears owed to workers.

Debo Ologunagba, the party’s spokesperson, emphasized the insensitivity of such spending at a time when citizens are facing severe economic hardships, portraying the Tinubu-led government as “a cesspit of corruption.”

Citing the alleged misappropriation of funds in various government ministries, the PDP demanded transparency and accountability from the Tinubu Presidency. It urged the National Assembly to exercise its constitutional powers and launch a prompt investigation into the matter.

The PDP’s call for oversight aims to address the concerns of citizens and uphold financial probity within the government.

It remains to be seen whether the National Assembly will heed the opposition party’s demand and initiate a probe into the alleged financial misconduct linked to the presidency of Bola Tinubu.
