IMSUTH: Radiology Equipment Unharmed Despite Fire Incident

Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) has assured that the recent fire outbreak at the Radiology Block did not cause damage to any essential equipment. The institution credited the timely intervention of security personnel and staff members for preventing further destruction during the incident.

In a statement released by IMSUTH’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Judith Richards – Chukwunyere, it was clarified that the fire primarily affected the ICT unit, causing limited damage to some desktops. The institution’s security personnel successfully salvaged most of the office equipment in this unit.

The statement also highlighted the challenges faced by staff residing outside the Orlu Local Government Area, who typically avoid venturing to the hospital on Mondays due to safety concerns associated with the sit-at-home directives.

Dr. Ifeanyi Nwamba, the Chief Medical Director, was commended for his proactive response, which involved seeking assistance from local authorities and directing the deployment of water tankers to extinguish the fire. Ongoing investigations have pointed towards the involvement of individuals smoking Indian Hemp in the nearby bushes as a potential cause of the fire.

Furthermore, IMSUTH appealed to community leaders in the vicinity to bolster security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The hospital’s assurance regarding the integrity of its radiology equipment following the fire incident provides reassurance to patients and stakeholders, underscoring the resilience and commitment of IMSUTH in ensuring the continuity of essential healthcare services.
