NDLEA Seizes N125m Worth of Illicit Drugs in FCT

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a staggering 7,345.209 kilograms of illicit drugs and substances worth N125.71 million in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The commander, Kabir Tsakuwa, revealed in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria that these illicit drugs, including Marijuana, Cocaine, Diazepam, Methamphetamine, Rohypnol, Tramadol, Pentazocine, Heroin, Megadon, and Ecstasy, were confiscated in 2023.

The breakdown of the seizures includes 7,138.72kg of marijuana, 0.5kg of Cocaine, 29.629kg of Diazepam, 4.587kg of Methamphetamine, 5.934kg of Rohyphol, and 133.753kg of Tramadol. Additionally, Pentazocine accounted for 21.727kg, Heroin for 0.002kg, Megadon for 0.263kg, and Ecstasy for 0.134kg. The total street value of these intercepted drugs amounts to N125,714,620 million.

During the same period, 640 suspects (614 males and 26 females) were arrested. Out of these, 295 were charged to court, 201 were convicted, and 264 cases are pending in the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Regarding rehabilitation efforts, 175 drug users were counseled and reintegrated into society, of which 172 were males and three were females.

This significant interception and ongoing efforts by the NDLEA demonstrate a commitment to curbing illicit drug trafficking and its associated consequences on society.
