The House of Representatives has praised the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, for securing the second position at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, marking their fifth time as runners-up.
Speaking on behalf of the House, Rep. Akin Rotimi (APC-Ekiti state) issued a statement on Monday, lauding the entire team and coaching staff for their remarkable showing in Cote d’Ivoire. The spokesman also expressed particular satisfaction with the performance of the team’s captain, William Ekong, who was honored as the ‘Man of the Competition’.
“The Super Eagles, based on their performance at the tournament, deserved victory but narrowly lost the AFCON trophy. Nevertheless, they have proven that Nigeria remains the giant of Africa in sport and other endeavors. During the tournament, Nigerians showed that we are one great nation. Nigerians are proud of you,” the Speaker said.
Rotimi emphasized that the Super Eagles’ achievement will not only serve as an inspiration to numerous sports talents across the country but also motivate citizens in other areas of influence to strive for the betterment of the nation. He highlighted the team’s contribution to a more cohesive national spirit and commended them for representing Nigeria admirably during the games.
