President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has affirmed his commitment to transforming Nigeria into a net exporter of food. The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, following a meeting with a delegation from the Global Tijaniyya Movement. The President expressed his determination to enhance agricultural productivity through initiatives such as expanding farmlands, providing low-interest loans to farmers, and investing in irrigation infrastructure.
“We are committed to equipping hospitals with modern equipment, offering professional training to healthcare workers, and ensuring comprehensive health insurance coverage for all citizens,” stated President Tinubu. “Nigeria will emerge as a net food exporter. We are introducing thousands of tractors and embracing aggressive mechanization to significantly boost food production. Productivity is crucial, reflecting the principles I have grown up with.”
President Tinubu’s assurance coincides with Nigeria’s struggle against soaring inflation and escalating living costs. The National Bureau of Statistics reported a headline inflation of 28.92% and food inflation of 33.93% in the December consumer price index.
