The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited has successfully delivered 475,000 barrels of crude oil to the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited. This supply aligns with the government’s commitment to enhance domestic refining capacity and ensure easier access to petroleum products within the country.

Abimbola Essien-Nelson, the Media Relations Manager at Shell Nigeria, stated that the Bonny Oil & Gas Terminal, operated by Shell, has completed the supply to the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited. This milestone follows a prolonged five-year outage, during which the Port Harcourt refinery underwent rehabilitation and integrity activities on its supply pipeline from the terminal.

Dr. Osagie Okunbor, Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria and Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, expressed the significance of the collaboration between the Bonny Oil & Gas Terminal and Port Harcourt Refining Company, emphasizing its role in enhancing the nation’s refining capacity and ensuring a steady supply of petroleum products to the Nigerian market. He also indicated that future supplies to the refinery will be influenced by market demand.

Ongoing efforts to guarantee the integrity of pipelines, maintenance activities, and environmental safety were highlighted by Osita Nnajiofor, the Bonny Terminal Installation Manager. He emphasized the successful and safe completion of the refinery supply without harm to people, the environment, or equipment.

These developments are crucial for the industry and the country, supporting the government’s goals of a consistent supply of petroleum products to the downstream market and contributing to the nation’s economic growth.

It’s worth noting that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited subsidiaries are set to hand over the rehabilitated Port Harcourt refinery to private operators, marking a significant transition in the refinery’s operations.
