Lagos Governor Laments Nigeria’s Defeat to Ivory Coast in AFCON Final

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, expressed deep sorrow over Nigeria’s 2-1 loss to Ivory Coast in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final. He called it a “very sad loss” and urged the Super Eagles to regroup.

In a series of tweets, Sanwo-Olu also congratulated William Troost-Ekong for being named the Player of the Tournament. He tweeted, “A very sad loss for the Super Eagles. They gave their all in this tournament, but in the end, it was left to fine margins.”

The governor continued, “Congratulations to William Troost-Ekong for being crowned the AFCON Player of the Tournament. Well done to our champs, let’s rebuild and go again.”

Sanwo-Olu highlighted the unity the tournament brought as thousands of people came together to enjoy football across 25 viewing centers. He emphasized how the team made the nation proud regardless of the outcome.

Ivory Coast secured their third AFCON trophy with goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller, despite William Troost-Ekong’s goal for the Super Eagles.
