Protests against the confirmation of General Prince C. Johnson as Liberia’s Minister of Defense have gained momentum, with demonstrations spreading to various regions including Gbarnga, Bong County. Simultaneous protests are occurring on the Roberts Field Highway in Monrovia, Kakata, Margibi County, and in Grand Gedeh County, as army personnel’s wives and widows block roads, urging President Joseph Boakai to reconsider the appointment.
Wives of AFL soldiers stationed at Camp Tubman Military Barracks in Gbarnga are specifically calling for General Johnson’s dismissal, following his Senate confirmation. They allege that General Johnson denied their husbands rightful benefits and incentives during his tenure as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia.
Roads have been blockaded, halting vehicle movement, as these women stand firm on their demand for General Johnson’s dismissal. They have indicated their readiness to maintain the roadblocks until President Joseph Boakai takes action.
