The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has clarified that it has no intention of imposing taxes on online content creators. A confidential source within the agency informed NAN that individual content creators, such as skit makers, do not fall under the purview of the FIRS. The agency primarily focuses on collecting Company Income Tax, targeting corporate entities earning profits of N25 million and above.
Contrary to recent reports, the FIRS has not labeled content creators and influencers as significant tax evaders. Instead, the agency has introduced a new structure aimed at enhancing the country’s tax administration. Dr. Zacch Adedeji, the Executive Chairman of FIRS, revealed that this modernized approach emphasizes integrated tax strategies supported by advanced technology. The goal is to innovate and adapt to meet the changing needs of taxpayers in today’s dynamic world.
Adedeji emphasized that the new structure advocates a comprehensive taxpayer service model, consolidating core functions and support under a single umbrella. The agency aims to simplify the taxpayer experience by tailoring services to specific segments, thereby creating a seamless and user-friendly interaction. This shift away from traditional tax categorization marks a significant departure in the agency’s approach to tax administration.
