Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has called upon the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, to assist in addressing the security threats facing tertiary institutions in the state. During a visit to TETFund in Abuja, the governor emphasized the need for additional support to enhance infrastructure and ensure a safe learning environment for students.

Highlighting the impact of insecurity on learning, Governor Radda stressed the significance of TETFund’s role in providing essential resources to counter the challenges faced by educational institutions. Expressing gratitude to the Federal Government for its interventions, he underscored the critical nature of TETFund’s assistance, particularly in light of economic hardships, currency depreciation, and food price inflation in the region.

Acknowledging the national issue of insecurity, Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, assured that measures were in place to address security concerns in tertiary institutions. Echono emphasized TETFund’s commitment to prioritizing areas affected by insecurity, citing ongoing efforts to integrate the University of Transportation into their interventions.

Furthermore, Echono highlighted TETFund’s broader initiatives, including addressing the skills gap, expanding access to education through technology, and providing support for underprivileged students. He emphasized the organization’s dedication to facilitating the return of out-of-school children to educational institutions and empowering them through skills programs.

In response to the governor’s request, Echono advised the state Commissioner for Education to collaborate with TETFund to ensure that Katsina’s institutions benefit from the organization’s interventions.

The governor’s plea and TETFund’s commitment underscore the critical need for collaborative efforts to safeguard educational institutions and create an enabling environment for learning amidst security challenges.
