… Oluremi Tinubu announces N50m endowment fund for best graduating students in law at Maryam Abacha American University

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has urged President Bola Tinubu’s wife, Oluremi, to convey the message of the people about hunger and starvation in the country to her husband.
The Emir made the call when Oluremi paid him a courtesy visit at his palace on Monday.
The president’s wife visited Kano to attend the opening of a Faculty of Law building at Maryam Abacha American University named after her.
The emir said, “Although we have several means of communicating to the government on our needs and request, your way and means is the surest way that you would tell the President the actual happenings in the country.
“The hunger and starvation, though didn’t start with this government, the situation has become more alarming and needs urgent attention.”
According to Daily Trust, Bayero explained that, “the issues of insecurity is another serious problem we are facing. I know your government inherited it, but something more seriously should be done to take care of the threats.
“We are receiving series of messages from our people. One of such message is the much talked about relocation of CBN and FAAN to Lagos, I think the Government should come out clean on this matter and talk to Nigerians in the languages they would understand.
“Do more enlightenment on this matter. I for one cannot tell the actual intentions of the government, we should be made to actually understand why the relocation of the CBN and FAAN offices are now to Lagos.”
Bayero, while commending the first lady for her care on the wellbeing and welfare of the children, advised her to actualize her Renewed Hope Initiative Pet Programme, adding that the programme, if fully achieved, would free the underprivileged people from the shackles of problems.
Expressing worries about girl child education, the emir urged Mrs Tinubu to look at the issue critically and make sure that the issue is tackled without any problems.
He commended her for supporting people of Plateau during the crisis in the state, urging that a similar gesture should be extended to all and sundry.
In her entourage on the courtesy visit were the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, FCT Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, among others.
Meanwhile, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has announced a N50 million endowment fund for the best graduating students in law at Maryam Abacha American University, Kano.
She announced the fund yesterday at the opening of a Faculty of Law building at Maryam Abacha American University Kano named after her.
Mrs Tinubu, while speaking shortly after the unveiling of the building, expressed satisfaction with the facilities put in place and thanked the Founder of the University, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, for naming the school building after her.
She commended the founder and Chairman Governing Council of MAAUN, Prof. Gwarzo for his contribution towards uplifting the standard of education in Nigeria and beyond.
“I am delighted to be honoured at this occasion and I am not taking it for granted as I will continue to support the youth because education is the key to freedom,” she said.
In his remark, the founder of the university said MAAUN’s vision is to be a world-class university renowned in teaching, research and service for global mankind.”
He said the mission of the university is to “offer the world with well educated and talented leaders and captains of industries by providing affordable and acceptable qualitative education and skills to all.”
Prof. Gwarzo, who spoke at length on the history of the university which started in Maradi, Niger Republic in 2013, restated his commitment towards providing quality education in the university.
After commissioning the edifice, the First Lady was conducted round the School of Law and the Murtala Ramat Mohammed library.
Tinubu was accompanied by the former First Lady, Hajiya Maryam Sani Abacha, Minister of State, FCT, Dr. Mariya Bunkure, former Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Pauline Tallen and wife of the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Mrs George Akume.
Other personalities that accompanied the first lady were 17 state governors’ wives including Niger, Borno, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Ogun, Nasarawa, Gombe, Plateau and Jigawa.
Others present were the wives of governors of Katsina, Taraba, Adamawa, Kogi, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Lagos and the host state, Kano.
