Nigeria Coach’s Future in Question After AFCON 2023 Loss to Ivory Coast

The head coach of Nigeria’s national football team, Jose Peseiro, finds himself out of contract following the conclusion of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Last year, Peseiro had inked a short-term deal with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), lasting only six months until the end of AFCON. The contract stipulated that Peseiro must guide the team to at least the semi-finals, a feat he surpassed by leading the Super Eagles to the final, ultimately losing 2-1 to hosts Ivory Coast. With the tournament now over, the NFF’s decision regarding Peseiro’s future remains uncertain.
