Ebonyi State Government to Demolish Unauthorized Structures and Slums in Abakaliki

Ebonyi State government has announced its plan to demolish illegal structures and slums in the capital city, Abakaliki. The Commissioner for Capital City Development, Mr. Sunday Inyima, stated that the demolition would target residential buildings and shops that do not comply with physical planning standards.

The demolition is set to commence on February 15, starting with illegal structures identified along Water Works Road and Hausa Quarters Area. The property owners and developers have been notified, and they are advised to remove the structures themselves. The Hausa community has been informed and has shown willingness to cooperate with the government in the demolition process.

Additionally, the demolition will extend to slums and informal business centers in the specified areas. Commissioner Inyima emphasized that the exercise aims to enhance proper urban planning and beautification of the capital city.

The government’s objective is to transform Abakaliki into a clean and aesthetically pleasing city, aligning with the standards of major urban centers nationwide.
