The Presidency has made a startling admission, acknowledging that Nigeria’s wealth has been overestimated, labeling the country as “very poor.” Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, made the revelation during an interview on Arise Television.
Onanuga emphasized that Nigeria remains a very poor country, particularly in consideration of its low per capita income in comparison to other African nations. “Nigeria is a very very poor country, to be honest. I think our wealth is overestimated,” he candidly stated.
Addressing the state of Nigeria’s economy and the government’s efforts to ensure stability, the presidential aide highlighted the country’s poor estimation of wealth. He expressed hope for a reduction in financial pressure with the removal of petrol subsidies and the unification of the exchange rate.
Dispelling claims of owed emoluments to federal workers under the Tinubu-led government, Onanuga clarified that delays in salary disbursement were due to platform challenges. He assured that all federal workers have now been paid, refuting any lingering concerns.
