Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has vowed to collaborate with national authorities to revitalize all seaports within the state. The governor made this commitment during a meeting with the Olu of Warri Kingdom, HRM Atuwatse III, CFR, and his council at the Government House in Asaba.
Governor Oborevwori commended the exemplary leadership of the Olu of Warri, hailing him as a boon to their generation. He emphasized his administration’s dedication to engaging the Federal Government in reinvigorating the state’s ports, citing their significance in fostering development.
Expressing his determination, Governor Oborevwori stated, “The ports are pivotal to Delta State’s advancement. Even without formal requests, I intend to initiate discussions at the national level to facilitate the rehabilitation of all ports within Delta State. Their restoration will significantly contribute to the state’s progress. Additionally, the completion of refinery maintenance will bolster operational capabilities.”
Furthermore, the governor underscored his administration’s profound respect for the role of traditional rulers in governance, acknowledging their pivotal position in bridging the gap between grassroots communities and the government. He urged traditional leaders to offer constructive criticism and assured them of the government’s receptiveness.
Addressing the burgeoning controversy surrounding the proposed renaming of areas within Warri, Governor Oborevwori urged proponents to preserve the existing tranquility in the oil city. He emphasized the expansion of Warri beyond its core district, invalidating the need for unnecessary discord.
In an earlier statement, the Olu of Warri, HRM Atuwatse III, lauded the governor on his triumph at the Supreme Court and implored him to help establish a higher education institution in the Warri Kingdom. He also lauded infrastructural developments and appealed for the swift refurbishment of Delta State’s ports and the Warri refinery to alleviate unemployment among the youth.
The Olu of Warri further appealed for assistance to conclude a water scheme in collaboration with Chevron, emphasizing the pressing need for access to potable water in riverine areas.
Governor Oborevwori assured the monarch of his support and encouraged federal intervention in realizing these developmental initiatives, reiterating his commitment to inclusive governance and progress for all regions within Delta State.
