Labour Party Chairman Refutes Allegations of N3.5bn Fraud, Challenges Suspended Treasurer to Provide Evidence

The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, rebuffed claims of mismanaging over N3.5 billion in party funds, as alleged by the suspended National Treasurer, Mrs. Oluchi Oparah. Abure emphasized that an audited report by a certified auditor revealed that the party had only received N1.3 billion in revenue from 2022 to 2023. He further stated that an additional N700 million was specifically allocated for campaign funds, casting doubt on Oparah’s assertion. The Chairman challenged Oparah to substantiate her claim and provide evidence supporting the alleged N3.5 billion generated during the election. This development comes amidst a wave of internal strife within the Labour Party, culminating in the suspension of Oparah, whom the National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, labeled as a mole being exploited by dissenting factions to sow discord within the party. The embroilment underscores the intensity of the LP’s internal rift, shedding light on the intricacies of financial management and accountability within political entities.
