OSIEC Announces February 2025 Date for Osun Local Government Elections

The Osun State Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has confirmed that local government elections in the state will take place on February 22, 2025. Hassim Abioye, the Chairman of OSIEC, revealed this information in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State. Abioye further stated that the commission will soon release the timetable for the poll, emphasizing the importance of media cooperation for the success of the electoral process.

During a press conference at the OSIEC headquarters, Abioye highlighted the constitutional and legal basis for the upcoming elections. He assured the public of the commission’s commitment to adhering to due process and the law. Abioye also emphasized the thorough review of electoral laws, consultations with legal experts, technocrats, and stakeholders, as well as the absence of legal obstacles hindering the electoral process.

Notably, OSIEC’s new leadership aims to conduct elections across the 30 Local Government Council Areas, the Area Council, the 32 Local Council Development Authorities, and the 6 Area Council Development Authorities in Osun State on February 22, 2025. The commission plans to officially publish the election notice and timetable in newspapers and various media outlets.

Abioye stressed the vital role of the media as a crucial stakeholder in the electoral process and called for their full cooperation. He expressed confidence that with the support of the media and other stakeholders, the elections would be a resounding success.

The announcement marks a significant step in the democratic process in Osun State, as preparations for the local government elections gain momentum under the guidance of OSIEC.
