Reports from southern Lebanon indicate that Israeli strikes have resulted in the deaths of eleven civilians, including six children. The attacks were purportedly in response to a rocket assault by Hezbollah, which claimed the life of an Israeli soldier. The exchange of fire between Hezbollah and the Israeli military has persisted for over four months along the Israel-Lebanon border.
The casualties in Lebanon include a woman and her two children killed in a village, as well as four children, three women, and a man who perished in a strike on a building in Nabatieh. Additionally, seven individuals were wounded in the attacks. Separately, four Hezbollah fighters lost their lives in the airstrikes.
The Israeli government spokesperson emphasized that Israel has no desire for a war on multiple fronts but vowed a robust response if provoked further. The spokesperson stressed the plight of tens of thousands of displaced Israelis and the importance of being able to return to their homes in peace and security.
Hezbollah’s leadership emphasized that Israel’s attacks cannot go unanswered, while the head of Israel’s military asserted that it is not the time to relent, despite achievements against Hezbollah. Meanwhile, Hezbollah’s leader indicated a willingness to halt the exchanges of fire if a comprehensive ceasefire for Gaza is secured.
The cross-border conflict has already resulted in over 200 casualties in Lebanon, including numerous Hezbollah fighters, as well as casualties among Israeli troops and civilians. Moreover, it has led to the displacement of tens of thousands of individuals in border areas of both countries.
