Dr. Sam Amadi, Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, has criticized the management of the Labour Party (LP), calling it “terribly managed” and highlighting the absence of effective leadership within the party.
The comments came in response to the suspension of the LP’s national treasurer, Oluchi Opara, who had accused the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, of misappropriating N3.5 billion campaign funds. Opara claimed that the funds were raised from sales of forms and fundraising activities in preparation for the 2023 general elections.
In an official statement, the party’s national publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh, announced Opara’s suspension for six months, alleging external influences and efforts to tarnish the party’s image.
Amadi, expressing his dismay on social media, stated, “Sadly, the LP has been terribly managed. There’s absolute lack of leadership. Yes APC may have tried to undermine it. But its leadership has been awful.”
The criticism underscores ongoing challenges within the LP, as experts and stakeholders continue to raise concerns about the party’s internal management and leadership capabilities.
The unfolding situation raises questions about the LP’s ability to navigate internal conflicts and maintain public confidence as the country approaches the next election cycle.
