Monarch’s Son, Aged 32, Secures House of Reps Seat in Taraba State

Sadiq Tafida, aged 32 and affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has clinched victory in the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing federal constituency in Taraba State, Nigeria. Tafida, who garnered 19,681 votes from the rerun and supplementary polls, is the son of the Emir of Muri, Alhaji Abbas Njiddah Tafida. The results were announced by the returning officer, Professor Olarenwaju Oladipo, a lecturer at the University of Wukari.

The PDP candidate’s victory overshadowed Innocent Jabayang of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who secured 16,379 votes, and Aminu Malle of the All Progressive Congress (APC), with 12,662 votes. Additionally, Aminu Liman, the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), received 3,646 votes in what was described as a keenly contested rerun election in Taraba.

This election marked a significant turn of events, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the initial February 3, 2024, election inconclusive. Sadiq Tafida’s victory brings a fresh perspective to the political landscape of Taraba State, solidifying his position as the member-elect for the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing federal constituency.
