A controversy has erupted as the cultural music group, United Boys Culture, accused the well-known musician Timaya of unauthorized sampling in his latest song, ‘Dey Your Dey.’ According to the group, Timaya had previously used another of their songs, ‘As E Dey Sweet Us, E Dey Pain Dem,’ without permission.
The leader of United Boys Culture made the allegations in a video posted on their TikTok page, urging Timaya to desist from appropriating their intellectual property. He emphasized that their song ‘Dey Your Dey’ had been trending since October, and if Timaya intended to remix it, he should have sought their consent. The group leader appealed to Timaya, saying, “Please, leave our songs. I am begging you, Mr. Timaya.”
Timaya has not responded to the allegations thus far.
The incident has sparked public outcry, with many condemning plagiarism and calling on Timaya to refrain from such actions. A tweet expressing disappointment in Timaya’s alleged involvement in song theft has gained significant attention on social media, further intensifying the debate.
The allegations against Timaya have stirred controversy and divided opinions within the music community, shedding light on the importance of respecting intellectual property rights in the industry.
