Akwa Ibom State Honors Troost-Ekong for Exceptional AFCON Performance

Super Eagles’ vice-captain, William Troost-Ekong, received a distinguished honor from Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State in recognition of his outstanding performance during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Troost-Ekong, a native of Akwa Ibom State, played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s AFCON 2023 journey, showcasing exceptional skill and commitment. His contribution as a center-back, including three crucial goals for the Super Eagles, earned him the prestigious title of Player of the Tournament. Additionally, his stellar performance led to his inclusion in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Team of the Tournament.

In a special reception held at the government house in Uyo, Troost-Ekong expressed gratitude to Governor Eno by presenting a Super Eagles jersey as a symbol of appreciation for the unwavering support and encouragement from the state.

The celebrated defender also visited the office of Senate President Godswill Akpabio in Abuja, reflecting the significance of his achievements within the country’s political and sporting spheres.
