A former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Lucky Imasuen, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress governorship primary election being held in Edo today. The withdrawal came after the release of a letter by Imasuen on Saturday morning.

Imasuen, one of the 12 governorship aspirants initially cleared by a committee set up by the APC National Working Committee, addressed his withdrawal letter to his supporters. He cited his decision as being in the interest of peace and unity, following the party’s zoning of the governorship ticket to the Central Senatorial District.

In his letter, Imasuen expressed gratitude for the unwavering support and belief of his supporters. He stated, “While this decision was not made lightly, I trust that you will understand, and continue to support our party, as we work together towards our shared goals.” He also affirmed his readiness to support whoever emerges as the candidate in the primary election.

Meanwhile, the primary election of the party is scheduled to hold today. Yesterday, another top contender, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, also announced his withdrawal from the race in a letter to the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, and the acting state chairman of the party, Jarrett Tenebe.

In his withdrawal letter, Ize-Iyamu described his decision as a painful one. His withdrawal came as a surprise to many, as he had been one of the frontrunners in the race.
