Lucky Imasuen, a former deputy governor of Edo State, has made the decision to withdraw from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries in the state. He cited the party’s National Working Committee’s zoning of the ticket to Edo Central Senatorial district as the reason for his withdrawal.
In an open letter, Imasuen stated, “I have come to the conclusion that since members of our National Working Committee (NWC), in their wisdom, have expressed their preference for zoning the governorship position to Edo Central Senatorial District, it is wise to align with the decision of the party. I am immensely grateful for your unwavering support and belief in me, throughout this journey. Your dedication and passion have been the driving force behind my campaign.”
The Edo APC governorship primary election was scheduled to take place on Saturday. Imasuen’s withdrawal comes shortly after Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a two-time governorship candidate in the state, also pulled out of the contest.
On February 10, Imasuen and 11 other governorship hopefuls were screened and cleared to contest in the party’s primary. With these recent withdrawals, attention now turns to the remaining candidates and the unfolding dynamics of the gubernatorial race in Edo State.
