The Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), has made a significant discovery, unveiling 14 illegal crude oil refining sites in Rivers. Rear Adm. John Okeke, the newly appointed Commander, disclosed this unsettling revelation during his recent inspection on Ataba Island near Bonny Island in Rivers.
Mr. Okeke, who took charge of his duties just a day before the discovery, emphasized that the illegal sites would face immediate destruction. The uncovering of these sites was facilitated by precise intelligence gathering, according to the OPDS Commander.
While no arrests have been reported, the joint operation, consisting of the Navy, Army, Air Force, Police, NSCDS, and the DIA among others, is determined to eradicate criminal activities in the Niger Delta region.
“We will intensify our efforts, and in collaboration, we aim to combat illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalism comprehensively,” stated Mr. Okeke during his visit to Ataba Island in Rivers, making the startling revelation about the 14 substantial cooking sites, one of which was still operational but abandoned upon the troops’ arrival.
Furthermore, the OPDS is committed to perpetual surveillance and the elimination of economic saboteurs in the region. Mr. Okeke expressed gratitude for the progress made by his predecessor, emphasizing the importance of sustained efforts in fulfilling their duties.
Mr. Okeke also cautioned criminals engaged in illegal activities, urging them to seek legitimate endeavors and sternly warning that those involved in pipeline vandalism and illegal bunkering will not find peace.
