Nigerian Information Minister Rejects PDP’s Call for Tinubu’s Resignation Amid Economic Hardships

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has brushed off demands from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum for President Bola Tinubu to step down due to the current economic challenges in Nigeria.

In a statement released on Saturday, the PDP Governors Forum called for Tinubu’s resignation if he fails to offer sustainable solutions to the country’s problems. They emphasized that the hardship faced by Nigerians transcends tribal, religious, or political affiliations.

However, in response to the PDP governors, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris, through his Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, staunchly asserted that Tinubu will not resign.

Idris labeled the call for resignation as a mere distraction, indicating that the PDP and its governors should focus on supporting the President’s efforts to alleviate economic hardships, rather than seeking to disrupt the administration’s mandate.

The minister highlighted the administration’s financial support to all state governments, irrespective of their political leanings, and the removal of petrol subsidies, which has bolstered revenue across the board, including PDP states.

He further underscored ongoing efforts to revamp the national economy, defeat insurgent groups like Boko Haram, and address liabilities inherited from the previous administration, such as subsidy claims, pension dues, and oil sector reforms.

Idris reiterated Tinubu’s commitment to confront and overcome the country’s challenges, emphasizing that these reforms are essential for laying a strong foundation for Nigeria’s future prosperity and development.

In conclusion, the minister urged the PDP governors to refrain from distractions and instead extend their support to the current administration as it works diligently to address the nation’s pressing issues.
