The Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Umar Namadi, has unveiled a strategic initiative to convert Dutse Airport into a cargo airport, aiming to bolster international trade and stimulate economic development.

Namadi disclosed the state government’s commitment to capitalizing on the potential of the Maigatari livestock market during an announcement in Dutse. The move is part of a larger effort to tap into global business prospects.

Hajiya Zainab Ringim, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media Affairs, emphasized that the state government is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and other partners to revitalize the Maigatari livestock market.

Namadi conveyed optimism that these endeavors would not only revamp the market but also expand its influence beyond the borders of Nigeria. He outlined plans to attract foreign investors for the establishment of modern amenities such as cold storage facilities and contemporary abattoirs.

The governor assured stakeholders of the government’s dedication to revolutionizing the livestock sector. He expressed, “We have our airport here, and we are trying to see how we can convert this airport to a cargo airport, and when that is done, we will see how we can open our livestock market. We have a lot of investors who will come and invest in terms of cold rooms, in terms of modern abattoirs and when that is done, we will now open Maigatari livestock market beyond the shores of this country.”
