In a recent interview, former presidential adviser Chief Okoi Obono-Obla has urged the ruling party to actively promote the production and consumption of goods made in Nigeria. Pointing to the current economic challenges, Obono-Obla emphasized the need to export these goods to boost foreign exchange earnings.

Highlighting the impact of hyperinflation and economic hardship, Obono-Obla attributed the situation to the undue advantage of the dollar over the naira. He cautioned against allowing the dollar to dominate the national currency, stressing the importance of strengthening the naira through deliberate efforts and collaboration between the government and the people.

Expressing concern about the nation’s heavy reliance on crude oil as the sole foreign exchange earner, he underscored the volatility of the international oil market and the need for diversification. He advocated for a strategic shift towards prioritizing locally made products and expanding Nigeria’s export base.

Addressing the prevalent insecurity and rampant killings in the country, Obono-Obla connected these challenges to corruption and institutionalized lawlessness. He pointed out that the culture of non-compliance with the law, particularly among the affluent, has contributed to the prevailing state of insecurity, emphasizing that it is crucial to uphold law and order.

In his impassioned appeal, Obono-Obla emphasized the need for a unified effort to combat these pressing issues, calling for accountability and a renewed commitment to upholding the rule of law.

With his unwavering resolve, Chief Obono-Obla’s call to action resonates as a rallying cry for a brighter, more secure future for Nigeria.
