Court orders Murja Kunya to undergo mental evaluation adjourns hearing

A Kano State Shari’a Court has issued an order for Murja Kunya, a prominent TikTok personality, to undergo a mental health assessment at a government hospital. The court has adjourned the hearing of the case until May.

The defendant, residing in Tishama Hotoro Quarters Kano, is facing charges related to inciting public disturbance, affiliation with a criminal gang, and criminal intimidation.

In the ruling delivered by Judge Nura Yusuf-Ahmad, it was stated that the defendant’s previous behavior indicated potential influence of drugs and a compromised mental state. As a result, the court has mandated the Hisbah board to provide regular updates on the defendant’s mental well-being for the next three months.

The prosecution counsel, Aliyu Abideen, mentioned that the Kano State Hisbah Board detained the defendant following numerous public complaints. It was alleged that the defendant frequently instigated disturbances in Tishama Hotoro Quarters Kano, often bringing unruly individuals late at night and causing disruptions through social media.

An incriminating TikTok video, which went viral, featured the defendant declaring herself as the leader of all prostitutes in the city. The defendant, however, has denied these accusations.

The charges brought against the defendant are in breach of section 341, 275, and 227 of the Kano State Shari’a Law.

The matter has been adjourned until May for further proceedings.
