Federal Government Takes Action to Address Soaring Food Prices

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, revealed that the Federal Government is cognizant of the escalating prices of essential food items in the markets. Speaking at the 2024 conference and annual general meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in Minna, Idris highlighted concrete measures being implemented to alleviate the situation.

During the event, Idris, represented by Malam Jibrin Ndace, Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), announced that the President had directed the National Security Adviser (NSA), Department of State Services (DSS), and Inspector General of Police (IGP) to collaborate with state governors to curb activities of individuals stockpiling food supplies and ensure price stabilization.

In commendation of Niger State Governor Umaru Bago’s initiatives to restrict bulk purchases of food items for hoarding, Idris credited the timely intervention for contributing to the recent decrease in food prices within the state. He also emphasized the administration’s commitment to economic restoration, security enhancement, foreign investment attraction, and the reinforcement of Nigeria’s global diplomatic principles.

Dr. Babangida Aliyu, former Governor of Niger, expressed optimism about the resurgence of NIPR, foreseeing the chapter’s emergence as a pioneering force in the industry.
