The Edo State Police Command has warned aspirants and their supporters against any act that could breach the peace in the state as they conduct primary elections for the governorship of the state.

It warned  that anyone found perpetrating or instigating violence would be arrested and prosecuted.

The command’s spokesman, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, while addressing journalists yesterday in Benin, said last Saturday’s primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was an eye-opener and will no longer treat such elections as just party affairs.

He said: “You could remember that we had just little hitch of a particular party delegate election. That has been an eye-opener to Edo State Police Command, that we should no longer see it as a party affair,” adding that they would view the primaries very seriously to ensure that lives and property are protected.

He charged the delegates and their supporters to play by the rules of the game and ensure a peaceful election, as the police would not tolerate any act of violence during the process.

“The Commissioner of Police, Edo State, CP Funsho Adegboye, is appealing to party members of the different political parties in Edo State who are conducting these delegate primaries to go about it in a lawful manner, according to the rules of the game,” he added.

The PDP will conduct its primary election tomorrow (Friday) and the APC is also conducting its inconclusive primary election which was marred by violence last Saturday.
