The United States Consulate in Nigeria is committed to enhancing bilateral trade and investment for mutual prosperity between the United States and Nigeria. Mike Ervin, the Political and Economic Section Chief of the US Consulate in Lagos, emphasized the consulate’s focus on expanding trade and investment during a visit to Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.

Ervin highlighted the historical partnership between the two countries, as evidenced by the recent visit of Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, to Nigeria. He expressed the desire to further strengthen the US-Nigeria bilateral relationship to foster prosperity.

Expressing gratitude for the hospitality extended by Governor Otti, Ervin underscored the consulate’s aim to identify opportunities for shared prosperity. Governor Otti, in turn, sought support from the US consulate to facilitate trade, investment, and other key areas of interest in Abia State.

Otti outlined challenges faced by the state’s business sector, including access to finance, power, and logistics support in the digital economy. He also mentioned the impending inauguration of the Geometric power plant by President Bola Tinubu, which is expected to address power supply issues in Aba, a major trading and industrial hub.

Additionally, Otti emphasized Aba’s prominence in shoe manufacturing, fabric, and garment production, despite past setbacks due to infrastructure deterioration. However, with ongoing infrastructure rejuvenation efforts, including road rehabilitation and enhanced security measures, the state has witnessed a gradual return of businesses that had previously relocated.

As both parties align to explore avenues for economic growth and cooperation, the commitment to fostering a robust bilateral relationship between the United States and Nigeria remains steadfast.
