Dani Alves, Former Barcelona Star, Receives 4-Year Sentence for Sexual Assault

Former Barcelona footballer, Dani Alves, has been given a four-year prison sentence for a sexual assault that occurred in a nightclub in 2022. The highest court in Catalonia handed down the verdict on Thursday and also mandated Alves to compensate the victim with €150,000.
According to the court’s statement, it was determined that the victim had not given consent, and there was substantial evidence, including testimony, supporting the conviction for rape. Alves, however, maintains that the encounter was consensual.
Following the ruling, Alves’ legal team expressed their intention to challenge the sentence. The 40-year-old was initially arrested in January 2023, subsequent to the incident which took place in the early hours of December 31, 2022.
