Grammy-nominated afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has criticized the wives of Nigerian politicians for failing to seek divorces despite their spouses’ ongoing embezzlement of the country’s funds. Kuti expressed disbelief at how these women continue to support and love their corrupt husbands.
During a recent Instagram live session, Kuti passionately stated, “You cannot see any Nigerian woman divorce a Nigerian politician for stealing from the country. Can you love a thief? Somebody that is blatantly stealing, not because he lacks anything. I can understand if he was hungry and he went out to steal to provide for his family. But these politicians are wealthy and are still ruining the lives of millions of people because of their greed. Yet, you can’t hear that their wives are seeking divorce.”
Kuti emphasized that regardless of one’s financial situation, causing harm to others for personal gain is entirely unjustifiable. In a powerful plea, he underscored the need for accountability and moral integrity.
The compelling message conveyed by Seun Kuti sheds light on the ethical responsibilities of public figures and calls for a societal shift towards justice and integrity, resonating far beyond the borders of Nigeria.
